Hi All.
I've been monitoring the JT65 N0UK logger and I find the conversation
troubling.
It seems that one or more stations are using non-standard EME procedures
and there is some disagreement over that.
One of the operators may even be using his own chat to clarify aspects of
the QSO according to what I read on the logger.
A valid QSO stands on its own and does not need outside clarification.
Hasn't the format of EME procedure been established world-wide for decades
now?
Maybe some shortcuts are acceptable in the US, but can we really afford to
alienate ourselves from the rest of the world?
When the moon goes down in Europe we are hard pressed to find a QSO. I for
one would certainly hate to be blacklisted by the rest of the world.
I find myself in agreement with the Europeans on this. We should all pursue
valid QSO's that the whole world can agree on.
Maybe we should not count on using tricks in an attempt to make a
questionable mode (at least on 2 meters) work better than more established
reliable modes like JT65b which gives me fairly consistent decodes down to
-30db when using WSJTX. I know some people think Q65 is better, but so far
I just am not
seeing it. Here a -30db decode on Q65 is much more rare. I watched a Q65
station for over an hour and finally got a single decode at -28db,
otherwise no decode at all much of the time. Other times he was much
stronger than that. I have no trouble getting frequent decodes at -30db
using JT65b and can see short hand signals on the waterfall even weaker. I
can't say that for Q65 which I believe is the main reason for some
stations now using non-standard EME procedural formats.
I do EME because it is hard.

The following 5GHz equipment is for sale. Please see list in Word and
PDF format along with lots of photographs at the Dropbox link below. I
can bring this equipment to the MUD conference in April but need to know
firmly by Monday prior to the conference. I really do not wish to break
this up, but feel free to make offers on the individual pieces prior to
Monday 10 April. If you take the lot, you will need a short bed pickup
as the dish component cases are fairly large.

Folks,
I am heading to Nevada today with a plan to activate (weather
permitting) a grid or grids tomorrow (I was considering Saturday as
well, but weather looks like no-no).
Two plans:
either DM17 (with possible run to DM07 as well), declination is high so
the window is long
or DM29 (with possible run to DM28), same case as above. This is harder
option. DM28 would be about 30 minutes drive, but terrain might be
unforgiving these days (the West is buried in snow/water), so this is
question to evaluated right on spot.
I will try to be on ping jockey, but internet is sparse in these grids.
My local moonrise is ~2pm that should be ~22:00z.
Everything is subject to change after I get to Nevada physically, I
expect terrain to be a total mess.

Hi Russ
Thank you for the advice about my problem.
Yes, I think I have confirmed a setting issue but it's my personal opinion.
So I would like to get various advices from you and everyone.
I up my test data of JT65B to this chat.
But my email is over 200k so I am waiting for permission from mailer.
You are able to read my result of JT65B at email.
My wish is simple, I would like to see JT65B on WSJT-X latest version.

Hi Taka. It sounds like you have it set up correctly, but you need to make
sure that the rx audio from each transceiver is actually going to the input
of the correct WSJT-X. I have often seen windows reconfigure the sound card
settings. This can happen at re-boot or when some drivers get messed up, or
possibly for other reasons. So always make sure your sound card settings
are correct - especially after making any changes.
For example, I have seen where the input channel was incorrectly configured
and there was a loud hum going into WSJT. That can really kill the decoder.
Maybe that is happening to you.
If not, then I don’t know. I do know that Conrad suggested that he could
get on Team Viewer and help you remotely. Maybe that is what you need to
do.

Hi Russ
Thank you for the information about RIG control.
I run two JT65B of WSJT-X and I am transmitting signals only on the V-pol
IC-7400 but I am also transmitting on the H-pol IC-7400 the same time with
the PTT.
But H-side IC-7400 does not send output power because output power is
minimum and connected the dummy load on the antenna connector.
So I don't think there is too loud signal going into the H-pol IC-7400.
This is because it's to protect the receiving end of the H-pol IC-7400 when
V-pol IC-7400 is transmitting.
Thank you....

Hello Taka. I did not study everything on your latest post, but it looks
like you have it set up right. There is one thing that might be causing
your problem though. I am assuming that only one of the copies of WSJT-X is
used for transmitting, the one connected to the polarity you want to tx on.
But that means that the one that is not transmitting is receiving during
your tx periods, and the strong signal may be overloading the rx circuits in
the one that is not transmitting. I have seen that here and I fixed the
problem by providing an isolation relay between the incoming antenna line
and the receiver that is connected to the side not transmitting. Of course
the relay is operated by the station sequencer. That solved a similar
problem both here and at K2UYH’s QTH.
Hope it helps, Taka. 73 & GL, Russ K2TXB

Subject: [Moon-Net] JT65B happened problem with WSJT-X more explain
Thank you for a lot of advice for my JT65B problem.
○Thanks Earl, WSJT-X is able to run multiple JT65B with the rig-name
parameter of desktop icons.
○Thanks Bint, I am using IC-7400 so it does not a USB cable.
But you said problem is that maybe the same problem as me.
○Thanks Jay, I just want two run JT65B on the PC. I use IC-7400 hasn't USB
cable so I doesn't set cat control so RIG name is none.
I should more explain my problem a little.
Please check the original question email for two attached files.
I am using an old two IC-7400s for the V and H-pol antenna.
So two IC-7400s hasn't USB port so I do not use CAT control, the Rig name is
None of each JT65B, and COM port "COM4" is setting for the RTS of the PTT
Method and it's sharing of two JT65B.
The V-pol IC-7400 on the left side of the screenshot is mainly so it use a
transmitting and a receiving and on the right side of screenshot H-pol
IC-7400 use a receiving only.
And I am using two USB sound cards for the V-pol IC-7400 and H-pol IC-7400.
I am setting audio, the input of the Soundcard is using a different two USB
soundcards.
But the output of the Soundcard is sharing the same USB soundcard of the
V-pol IC-7400.
I was testing the JT65B problem.
I explain the screenshot2
On the left side JT65B is V-pol, it's mainly side so it's transmit and
receive and right side JT65B is H-pol it receive only side.
What I noticed was that I turned on the "Enable TX" button on the left side
JT65B.
You can see the screenshot2, left side JT65B was transmitting, receiving
and decoding every minutes.
But you can see right side JT65B, it was the "Decode" state soon never end.
I explain the screenshot1
I turned on "Enable TX" button on the right side JT65B and then on the right
side JT65B is transmitting, receiving and decoding every minutes and on the
left side JT65B was receiving and decoding every minutes, it's normal
situation.
But I changed "Enable TX" button from on the right side to on the left side
so I turned off "Enable TX" on the right side and then I turned on "Enable
TX" on the left side.
And then JT65B became the screen shot situation.
So I think JT65B on the left side is the cause of the problem.
But I just installed WSJT-X ver2.6.1 and set the COM port and sound card.
I thought it was because of the shared sound card.
But other mode, two Q65A mode are able to run on one PC without any problem.
I am unable to find the setting difference between Q65A and JT65B.
Can someone tell me more advice for me.

Subject: [Moon-Net] JT65B happened problem with WSJT-X
I am having happened problem with JT65B of WSJT-X.
I posted on the WSJT-X forum but got no reply until now.
I run two JT65B of WSJT9 for H and V-pol on one PC for now.
Joe, K1JT said WSJT-X latest version is better than other version software.
So I am thinking about replacing JT65B from WSJT9 to WSJT-X.
But I have happened problem with JT65B of WSJT-X.
I installed WSJT-X since 2.1.2 but I did not use JT65B of WSJT-X.
So I am only using JT65B of WSJT9 until now.
Of course I tried to make two folders on the C drive and clean installed
WSJT-X ver2.6.1 on this folder.
And then I made two rig-names on the desktop icon.
Then WSJT-X made two folders under AppData/local.
Of course I am able to two run Q65, FT4, FT8 and other modes on the PC and
it use no problem.
But only JT65B of WSJT-X does not two run on the PC.
You can see the attached file.
I run two JT65B side by side on the screen.
I turned on one side "Enable TX" button then the same side WSJT-X started
TX, it was normal situation.
The another side of JT65B started "Decode" after about 54 seconds.
But "Decode" condition not ended and continue so JT65B became stopped
working.
The only way to clear this error is to restart both JT65B.
This PC OS is Windows10 64 bit.
Does anyone know how two run JT65B of WSJT-X on one PC.
Otherwise I am unable to replace from WSJT9 to WSJT-X.
Someone please help me...
Taka, JP3EXR
Now I test ended with JT65B of WSJT-X ver2.6.1.
I clean installed WSJT-X 2.6.1 and then WSJT-X made WSJT install folder.
I correct to made a rig-name --rig-name=IC7400_V with the desktop icon.
I ran desktop icon then WSJT-X made IC7400_V folder under APPdata/Local.
I copied IC7400_V desktop icon to IC7400_H then made IC7400_V copy icon on
the desktop.
I corrected IC7400_V copy to IC7400_H desktop icon and made
--rig-name=IC7400_H with the desktop icon.
And I ran IC7400_H desktop icon then WSJT-X made IC7400_H folder under
APPdata/Local.
So WSJT-X made one WSJT program on C drive and made two holders of a
IC7400_V and IC7400_H under User/APPdata/Local.
And I was testing JT65B of WSJT-X.
I tested 4 pattern of soon and after 2 minutes when I run two JT65B.
There are the startup order of H and V-pol of JT65B and the startup order of
H and V-pol of "Enable TX"
But you may more need to check the "Decode" state when switching
mid-transmission of "Enable TX".
I run 2 JT65B and I check it soon.
The startup order of H and V program. the startup order of "Enable TX"
Start order of first / Start order of second / start of TX
side / Result.
Test1 a H / V / H /
Okay
Test2 a H / V / V /
Okay
Test3 a V / H / H /
Okay
Test4 a V / H / V /
No Good
I run 2 JT65B and I check it after 2 minutes.
Start order of first / Start order of second / start of TX side /
Result.
Test11 a H / V / H / Okay
Test12 a H / V / V / Okay
Test13 a V / H / H / No
Good
Test14 a V / H / V / No
Good
Probably I'm having trouble with the order in which JT65B is started.
This result is considered to be a problem in the program of JT65, not in the
settings.
Taka, JP3EXR
Hi Earl and Conrad
Thank you for the advice about WSJT-X.
I don't want over three JT65Bs on my PC so I just want two JT65Bs.
Now I am testing JT65B that Conrad said way.
I am testing now the following.
The startup order of H and V-pol of JT65B.
And the startup order of H and V-pol of "Enable TX"
I will post the results to Moon net.
Probably I'm having trouble with the order in which JT65B is started.
This result is considered to be a problem in the program of JT65, not in the settings.
I'm not an expert of the software, but I can offer suggestions for solving the problem.

Subject: [Moon-Net] Re: JT65B happened problem with WSJT-X more explain
Hi Taka.
If you looked at all the source code files, I think it would be easy to understand that JT65b and Q65 runs very different programs.
WSJTX is a VERY large number of subroutines connected together to the extent that it is nearly impossible (for us mere mortals) to
understand. That JT65b and Q65 act differently is then easy to conceive. The interactions with what you are doing can be very different
and mode dependant. I was looking at the source code with the idea that a computer expert would help me compile improved versions
but the expensive Windows compiler cost stopped the project very early. I think when you get to a single copy of WSJTX that everything
else based on your problem will be solved. For JT65b, you will also want to link Call3.txt so what is changed on one instance is also changed
on the other. Mine works that way with Map65 and two instances of WSJTX.
Of course none of this complexity would be needed if Map65 was updated to the same extent that WSJTX was and was made to be just as sensitive.
I wish I had that talent and $$$. Kudos to Joe Taylor and a few others for that level of talent.
It would be great if Map65 could even be linked to WSJTX. I find it puzzling that even when a single polarity feeds Map65, the waterfall on WSJTX
is far more sensitive. I don't know if this is related to the decoder sensitivity difference. Some have excused the reduced sensitivity of Map65 by saying
that it covers 96khz bandwidth, but I think it has been documented that signals inside Ftol are decoded before the 96Khz bandwidth is decoded. I think this can be seen first hand on slower computers. You are correct to run WSJTX on JT65b. The sensitivity difference is too much to be ignored.
A further possible improvement is to run 45/135 polarity to each rig as an option. That is done with a coaxial hybrid. Of course if you can handle
Linrad and complex computer setups it can all be done with an SDR as PA5Y does.

Hell Taka San you do not need 2 versions of WSJT-X, if you try to use 2 separate versions you will have problems.
Delete the 2nd folder and 2nd versions.
Now you should have one short cut on the desktop. Open the shortcut properties, you will see a box named Target. The text will say wsjt.exe.
Edit this text to …. wsjt.exe -rig name=IC7400_vertical
This will put all the data for that instance of wsjt in its own folder.
Now make a copy of this shortcut on your desktop.
Open properties and change the text in the Target to
…. wsjt.exe -rig name=IC7400_horizontal
You can name the shortcuts to IC7400_H and IC7400_V for example. That is it, this will definitely work in harmony. You must not have 2 wsjt.exe files in different locations. Try the method above, it will work fine.

Thank you for the information.
I think you use something Rig name.
Yes, I'm running well except JT65B of WSJT-X.
So only JT65B is causing problems all the times.
But I don't understand the cause of the problem.
Thank you
Taka, JP3EXR

Hi Taka.
Do not have 2 folders and 2 x WSJT.exe, that is not correct.
Your short cuts must point to the same exe file. Follow the steps exactly as I described and it will work. Uninstall one of the exe files, this is very important.

Hi Conrad
Thank you for the advice about WSJT-X
Yes, I made new two folder for WSJT-X under C drive.
And I each installed WSJT-X ver 2.6.1 so it's the same program and I made two different rig-names by the desktop icon.
So JT65B made 2 rig-names folder under Appdata/Local.
So I think I did what you said.
I don't understand why JT65B is causing trouble while Q65 is doing fine.

Subject: [Moon-Net] JT65B happened problem with WSJT-X more explain
Thank you for a lot of advice for my JT65B problem.
○Thanks Earl, WSJT-X is able to run multiple JT65B with the rig-name parameter of desktop icons.
○Thanks Bint, I am using IC-7400 so it does not a USB cable.
But you said problem is that maybe the same problem as me.
○Thanks Jay, I just want two run JT65B on the PC. I use IC-7400 hasn't USB cable so I doesn't set cat control so RIG name is none.
I should more explain my problem a little.
Please check the original question email for two attached files.
I am using an old two IC-7400s for the V and H-pol antenna.
So two IC-7400s hasn't USB port so I do not use CAT control, the Rig name is None of each JT65B, and COM port "COM4" is setting for the RTS of the PTT Method and it's sharing of two JT65B.
The V-pol IC-7400 on the left side of the screenshot is mainly so it use a transmitting and a receiving and on the right side of screenshot H-pol IC-7400 use a receiving only.
And I am using two USB sound cards for the V-pol IC-7400 and H-pol IC-7400.
I am setting audio, the input of the Soundcard is using a different two USB soundcards.
But the output of the Soundcard is sharing the same USB soundcard of the V-pol IC-7400.
I was testing the JT65B problem.
I explain the screenshot2
On the left side JT65B is V-pol, it's mainly side so it's transmit and receive and right side JT65B is H-pol it receive only side.
What I noticed was that I turned on the "Enable TX" button on the left side JT65B.
You can see the screenshot2, left side JT65B was transmitting, receiving and decoding every minutes.
But you can see right side JT65B, it was the "Decode" state soon never end.
I explain the screenshot1
I turned on "Enable TX" button on the right side JT65B and then on the right side JT65B is transmitting, receiving and decoding every minutes and on the left side JT65B was receiving and decoding every minutes, it's normal situation.
But I changed "Enable TX" button from on the right side to on the left side so I turned off "Enable TX" on the right side and then I turned on "Enable TX" on the left side.
Best regard.
Taka, JP3EXR

Of course I tried to make two folders on the C drive and clean installed WSJT-X ver2.6.1 on this folder.
And then I made two rig-names on the desktop icon.
Then WSJT-X made two folders under AppData/local.
Of course I am able to two run Q65, FT4, FT8 and other modes on the PC and it use no problem.
But only JT65B of WSJT-X does not two run on the PC.
You can see the attached file.
I run two JT65B side by side on the screen.
I turned on one side "Enable TX" button then the same side WSJT-X started TX, it was normal situation.
The another side of JT65B started "Decode" after about 54 seconds.
But "Decode" condition not ended and continue so JT65B became stopped working.
