I have been playing with a new Triquint ULNA device (TQP3M9036). It
Shows a lot of promise. It is like a MAR or MSA device in that it is
50ohm in and out. and has a claimed NF about .4db nf ( their numbers).
I have built several pramps to test them and have gotten even better
than they claim and they cover 50-1296 with ease and NF is .4ish or
below. The S11 and S22 are both great and the OIP3 is +35db also
...very nice device. It has great promise as a good terrestrial LNA.
Preamps are foolproof to build and would cost under $50 if all the best
quality parts are used.
Just for information only ...

Hello moonbouncers,
There was very nice CW activity during ARRL contest this year (on all bands except 2m from US) and it is unfortunate I did not have a lot of free time for it.
I also “worked” JT65 logger eme (I thought: who is going to find out anyway??) and apart from constant chatter I also found JAMMING.... a lot of Jamming, even from its own creator!!?
Check a small part of it from N0UK logger:
11/19 17:04 VE3KH you being jammed by K1JT and W6YX (W7IUV Larry WA DN07dg 216.215.40.193)
11/19 17:05 Why Larry .... they on 142 also? (VE3KH Kevin ON FN03aj 24.141.203.45)
11/19 17:06 They are calling me to get a contest poitn and it ain't gonna happen!! (W7IUV Larry WA DN07dg 216.215.40.193)
11/19 17:08 Thansk Larry 73 ... Yes, I have been jumped by a quite a few stations (VE3KH Kevin ON FN03aj 24.141.203.45)
11/20 17:47 Also hr k1jt calling me -22 but not ans him (KN4SM/5WL/KW Jerry VA FM16qt 24.241.251.86)
11/20 18:02 Contest = reduced courtesy! (K5DOG/2M Stevedog NM DM52xw 65.127.140.122)
11/20 18:04 Yes, K1JT and W3SZ can hear on gold tooth. (K5DOG/2M Stevedog NM DM52xw 65.127.140.122)
One thing I wouldn’t regret missing on EME is JAMMING!!!

Hi All
Thanks for the input on these two radios
Just to let all know I have always run a mast mounted lna designed by VE7BQH .25nf/19db which has worked very well for me on EME
I think for a comparison i will get the TS-2000 receive modified as per Russ K2TXB just to try to see if there is any difference between the 736r and my TS-200
Hope to some comparisons to report over the next month or so
Thanks Ian VA7SW//VE7IRA
BTW when working EME I have on WSJT the RX DB set to 0 when I turn per amp off there DB on WSJT goes to –15 so the pre amp is definitely working
?
Now that the wx is starting to improve I'm beginning to look around the yard for a good place for installation of a eme tower. My problem is that I have a boatload of trees near the house. I do have an open yard but thats about 150 -200 ft of hardline run. So my question is...How important is it to stay clear of trees when doing eme on 2 meters? I'm thinking on 2 meters the trees will be less of an issue than the 200 ft?line loss. A little help before I commit to the installation.

Hi all,
I am in the crossroads, I have the intention of installing a set of 4x9
elements with no more of 5.0 meters boom long, because I would like to take
advantage of my G5500 rotor.

The idea is purchasing something commercial to make sure the success, and
you surely know other brands but perhaps it is not easy to get from Spain.
144OWL seem to see the best design but it is also the heavier, although the
other numbers are very close.
To find somebody who has proved several brands is not very likely, but
perhaps different hams have compared its performance between them.
I would like to know your experience and your opinion through the moon-net
or my e-mail.
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi John,
I found this pdf on the web.

You may find it useful even though it has some math prerequisites :-)

Hello lunatics.
Can some one tell me more about the focuspoint off my 2,4 meter
Prodeline off set dish ??
I take away the suport arm where normale the LNB or TX is.
This
beacuse the feed i use for 23cm is to big so i had to make
something new.
But after a long time off work i like to get a beter result on 24ghz .
For now i see 0,9 db moonnoise and 10,5 db sunnnoise with a HM preamp
NF off 2,7 db
This can be beter !!!
To find a focus for a primefocus dish this is not so diffucult.
But for a offset dish this is a other story:-)
I know that there are some amateurs qrv with a offset dish .
All info is welcome ....
Sorry if this is not all correct English:-)

PS can some one also tell be where the facecenter is in a RA3AQ feed for
a offset dish ??

Congratulations Tony. I want to move where you live. Keep up the good work.By the way were you using WSJT?? The reason I ask is from time to time WSJT will give you a false decode!! but who knows?? Regardless it gave you the incentive that you need to continue & that in itself is a measure of success.
Congratulations

Well I just rx'd my first station off the moon. Just rx'd G8BCG. I only have a 7 element with no elevation and no preamp. I do have a kilo coming in the next week or so. It's slowly coming together. And this first station off the moon was a really cool. Even if it was only rx.
PS.............Work on the 2 meter station soon as the wx breaks.

Howard, did you try using a series resonant C for a bypass at 23cm? Or
quarter wave sleeve choke with the power lead? Or some ferrite beads (like a
balun is made) with the power lead?

Hi Andy,
Did you get any answers to your question..???
Like you, I have a few Ducommun latching coaxial relays and would like to
use them for LNA protection at the feedpoint. They require a +ve pulse to
set or reset the relay.
I built a circuit very similar to W6PQL's except I used MOSFETS to drive
the
relay coils. It was placed up at the feedpoint next to the relay in a small
diecast box. It worked fine on 13cm, but on 23cm with more than 100W the
relay unlatched itself and I zapped my LNA several times.
Clearly, RF was getting into the circuitry, so I tried chokes and
decoupling
caps on the power rail and PTT input, but that didn't fix the problem. My
next step was to try the same on the relay side connections, but never got
that far...
Would be interested to know if you have decided on a solution, and if you
have tried anything yet..???

Subject: [Moon] Latching relay Ducommun
Hi,
I have at home some Ducommun 12V 2SE1T11JB coaxial latching relais
which I want to use for switching LNA on and off near septum feed.
Anyone out there using primitive controller like on page
http://www.ok2kkw.com/latching_relay_control.gif
If I'm right resitor only preventing heating the coils and if there is
200mA current than resitors are 4V/0.2A=20ohm.
Or is any better and easy way to use this latching relais for
switching on/off LNA on the septum feed?
All suggestion are welcome,
73s Andy
