Hello moonbouncers,
There was very nice CW activity during ARRL contest this year (on all bands except 2m from US) and it is unfortunate I did not have a lot of free time for it.
I also “worked” JT65 logger eme (I thought: who is going to find out anyway??) and apart from constant chatter I also found JAMMING.... a lot of Jamming, even from its own creator!!?
Check a small part of it from N0UK logger:
11/19 17:04 VE3KH you being jammed by K1JT and W6YX (W7IUV Larry WA DN07dg 216.215.40.193)
11/19 17:05 Why Larry .... they on 142 also? (VE3KH Kevin ON FN03aj 24.141.203.45)
11/19 17:06 They are calling me to get a contest poitn and it ain't gonna happen!! (W7IUV Larry WA DN07dg 216.215.40.193)
11/19 17:08 Thansk Larry 73 ... Yes, I have been jumped by a quite a few stations (VE3KH Kevin ON FN03aj 24.141.203.45)
11/20 17:47 Also hr k1jt calling me -22 but not ans him (KN4SM/5WL/KW Jerry VA FM16qt 24.241.251.86)
11/20 18:02 Contest = reduced courtesy! (K5DOG/2M Stevedog NM DM52xw 65.127.140.122)
11/20 18:04 Yes, K1JT and W3SZ can hear on gold tooth. (K5DOG/2M Stevedog NM DM52xw 65.127.140.122)
One thing I wouldn’t regret missing on EME is JAMMING!!!

I have this QRO-amplifier for sale but because of the weight and size, only local pickup is possible.
Think ít´s only interesting for amateurs located in Sweden.

Hi Folks,
I bought this powersupply SNT Emerson BML 231 204/5
It is standard set to 54Vdc output and contains a fiber optical interface.
No further adjustments at all.
Is there any-1 who has experience with this kind of powersupplies and configured it down to 48Vdc?
Met vriendelijke groet,

Many thanks to all those who have expressed concern over our well-being,
off-list. The storm was very severe, as you will have heard. Many
trees are down in my town of Princeton, New Jersey. Philadelphia and
New York (each about 60 miles from here, in opposite directions) are
basically shut down. We are without power at home and will probably
remain so for some days. I write this message from my Princeton
University office.
We are safe and well. My antennas apparently came through OK, although
of course I can't test anything. As for the EME contest next weekend...
it seems that K1JT should be counted as a "definite maybe".

Hi Ed
Good luck trying to find a dish larger than 12 feet. I have been looking for a 16 or 18 foot dish for about 10 years now and still cannot locate one. I am still using my 10 foot dish since 1998.

Andy and Herb,
Terrible news. I nearly lost my 16-foot dish in windstorm of Nov. 2010. The dish was not secured in its stow position and once it began to blow I was unable to rotate to secure it. Winds (>65mph) hit from 45 degree angle on the backside and twisted the azimuth mounting frame about 30-degrees with dish rotating and base not. I had a dicey situation where I had to support the dish on 4x4 timbers while removing the twisted 2-1/2 inch steel angle-iron legs of the base to replace with 2-1/2 inch square tubing. This put the dish out of service for the whole winter. The attachment of the dish to the elevation framework is also tilted about 5 to 10 degrees so I hope the elevation actuator can reset it by chaining down the counterweight frame while moving the dish down in elevation to reseat it (then hopefully secure it better). Some bent dish backframe still needs replacing.
Fortunately, I did not lose my dish as you have. I would not have funds to replace it. Finding another 16-foot dish probably impossible.
Dish is secured at az=130 (sideways to prevalent NE winds) with two braces on the bottom of dish supporting it at zero elevation and two 3/16-inch steel wire-rope cables from both edges of the dish to steel posts set in concrete. Bird-bath position (pointing at zenith) is not an option due to heavy snowfall load which would likely distort the dish surface or even break the mounts.
Winds running 25-35 mph last two days have precluded working on the dish.
I have determined the digital encoders are working and ordered a new 8-cond shielded cable for run to the shack. Cable is coming from east coast hit by Sandy so will not likely show up before this weekend. 1296 not QRV.
---------------
I have installed a new xtal in my 2m adaptive Rx system to cure the +6 KHz offset freq. issue. I will balance system gain between each polarity by inserting a test signal split equally into the preamps (done while array is lowered). I have MAP65v2.4 downloaded for use and recent WSJT offering 30-second sequencing options on JT65. A final solution to center freq gain suck-out by the roofing filter that are in parallel with the IF out ckt, was programing the DATA mode in the K3 for filter-3 which is an open slot in my radio. Roofing filters and 2nd IF are not used in the adapative RX system. Instead the wide-band IF is mixed down to IQ baseband by two locked LP-Pan that drive a Delta44 soundcard running at 96 KHz bw. details:

The contest will be the first real test of MAP65 at KL7UW.

We made it through here ok. No damage except for a tree down and my HF dipole destroyed. My antennas survived Hurricane Sandy. We anchored things down as best we could here. The only problem is that power is lost at the sight. I may try to snag a generator powerful enough to run the setup for the contest. Hope everyone made it through safely.

Hi Les, I stabilized my H frame by putting a line in a V configuration on
only one end of the crossboom to two cinder blocks on the ground. This
inhibits the twisting motion that destroys a system. Only one end. Putting
a line on both ends is not recemended since all the force is put on the
antennas with no give. Sandy passed overhead with 60 to 80 mph gusts. No
damage to the four MXP28's. Paul, wa3qpx On

Gentlemen
I will do my best to be on 70 and 23 for both our windows which just
so happen to fall into our local
Sunday and Monday time periods.
UTC Sat 3/11/2012 .. Moon Rise 1305z .. Moon Set 2240z
UTC Sun 4/11/2012 .. Moon Rise 1345z .. Moon Set 2335z
Footnote.
Regardless of the controversity of various Contests clashing on the
same weekend, it is worth bearing in
mind that the natural progression of the Moons parameters has changed
significantly to that of previous years.
It has been the practice (and for very good reasons) to choose high
Northern Moon declination weekends for
greater 'viability' (elevation) and lower path loss. However this
situation has now changed to the point where Perigee
and maximum Moon declination are now a long way apart. Perigee now
occurs at a declination of minus ~17 degrees
and Apogee at plus 20 degrees. It will become even worse as the Moon
declination continues to decline until mid ~2015.
This coming weekend we find we have the greatest path loss (1.99dB on
Perigee) and the Moon also passes close to Taurus A.
It may be time to re consider the choice of our EME Contest weekends
on the basis of path loss and Sky noise.
Granted it is an almost an impossible situation for the majority of
operators in the Northern Hemisphere and this will not improve for many years
but, if you trying to work under marginal equipment situations, you
need to look for Perigee.
It may be worth considering where you place your new antennae to
provide greater 'viability ' for lower Moon declinations.
True, there is no easy answer and one will need the wisdom of Solomon
to derive a compromise ! .. and it wont suit many .. but what is new!
